Love & Mental Health
At Love & Autism, we offer mental health care that honors and affirms an autistic individual’s identity, instead of suggesting that they change.
For me, humanistic healthcare comes as larger idea. It is not a series of techniques or interventions. It is not knowing more jargon or using new words to describe old techniques. It is about knowing at my very core that autistic people have and have always had the same human capacities as other non-autistic people. It means also fiercely finding solutions to access barriers, ableist systemic practices, previous traumas, and developing personalized support needs. It is operating with love, respect, and trust with all of humanity, not just people who have a non-autistic neurotype.
How Love & Autism Helps
Authentic & Autistic:
Mental Health for Autistic People
Therapy for autistic people has focused on making them appear more “acceptable” to a world that misunderstands them. The pressure to mask, suppress, and fit into neurotypical norms can be overwhelming—and devastating.
That’s not what we do here.
Mental health care should help us become more ourselves, not less. Autistic-affirming therapy is designed for autistic individuals who want support navigating life as they are, in ways that respect their identity, experiences, and needs.
We recognize the challenges of being autistic in a society that wasn’t built for you. And we know that true support doesn’t look like masking, changing, or making yourself smaller. Everyone deserves mental health support that comes from self-understanding, connection, and learning to thrive as you.
Connected & Competent:
For Parents & Caregivers
We know you love your child. But some of the stuff that so called “autism experts” tell you to do to them is not ok.
When you are told to do something with your child that doesn’t sit well with you, don’t do it. It doesn’t matter what letters are behind their name.
Forcing an autistic person to hide their autistic traits causes them to internalize their distress and develop mental health issues. So how do you do it right? Connect with us to get help.
Create & Redefine:
For Professionals
Neurodivergent affirming health professionals are healthcare providers who recognize, respect, and support the diverse neurological experiences and identities of their patients.
These professionals are trained to create an inclusive, compassionate, and empowering environment for neurodivergent individuals.
They reject ableist perspectives, valuing neurodivergent traits as part of the natural variation in human cognition and behavior.
Autistic affirming is a deliberate practice, but it also a values based position. Autistic affirming is not just because you want to be kind or you want to stay current in popular treatment trends, it is absolutely an ethical framework of operating in this world.
